Dr. Alvaro Osornio-Vargas research interest is in air pollution and related health effects. Specifically, he has focused on the effects of particulate matter at the experimental level. He has more than 100 publications, including six children’s books on Health Education. He worked as a researcher in the Mexican National Cancer Institute (1990-2009) and worked in the Advisory Board for the Commission for Environmental Cooperation on Children’s Environmental Health (2002–2004). In August 2009, he joined Department of Paediatrics, University of Alberta to develop the research segment of a Children’s Environmental Health initiative. Currently, he is working on a project mapping the distribution of children’s disease and industrial air pollutants in Canada. He teaches a new course for the Paediatrics Graduate Program on Children’s Health and the Environment. He is also an Adjunct Professor in the School of Public Health, University of Michigan, Rutgers School of Public Health and the School of Public Health, University of Alberta.
