Recent advances in the measurement
and forecasting of precipitation using weather radar

The development of weather radar for quantitative precipitation estimation has been heavily influenced by the hydrological and meteorological communities. However, weather radar rainfall measurements are affected by different sources of error that need to be corrected for in order to use radar rainfall estimations for hydrological and meteorological purposes. This talk will provide an overview of the state-of-the-art of the estimation of precipitation using weather radars (single-polarization and dual-polarization) and I will discuss the latest developments of the application of radar for short-term precipitation forecasting.
